Video Marketing

Video Marketing for Social Media

Before you dive into video marketing you will first need to establish a social media presence on either Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok as this will be the place you post your short video to promote your company. Check out our guide on Social Media to learn more about this free but hard-to-capture market.

The now more traditional video you would find on YouTube with both audio & video usually ranges in the 10-15min video length, but you could still post a 5 min video to your channel if you wanted. However, anything shorter than that is now called a “short” and this is the type of content that would find its home on TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook Reels (these platforms are owned by the same company, Meta), and YouTube Shorts. The length of the content determines if it is a short or a normal video.

Not to discourage your video marketing plan, but be aware of the challenges you are going to face when you try to execute this kind of marketing. However, when done right, these videos are an excellent way to show the human side of your company because you are not filming equipment but the living and breathing people that work in your company. If you, the owner, are the star of these videos, let your personality shine through it.

What makes video marketing more challenging, is finding people within your company with the skills to do it and the time to follow through with it.  What you may not realize yet, is capturing the audio of a video is the most challenging part of recording it. Recording audio that sounds clear is the biggest challenge when making a video, and to get around this hang-up you will often see video makers place music over videos or have no audio to avoid this recoding issue. If you need audio then you will want to shoot indoors and even then you will find that the microphone on a recording device picks up a lot of ambient noise resulting in an unpleasant experience when the video is watched. That is why we suggest recording videos with no audio, so it takes less time to create them especially if it is for advertising.

Video Type: Marketing Vs Advertising

When you advertise, you are selling products and services, and when you are marketing, you are promoting your brand or company by usually telling customers why they should do business with you. A short social media video is not a traditional TV commercial, instead, it is viral marketing that creates a positive image of your brand through the video.

These videos could promote any aspect of your business, like your work ethic, your expertise, and the team you have. Your videos should leave the impression that you are a professional company that customers want to do business with.

And most of all, have fun in these videos. The tone should be lighthearted, and transparent.

Possible Short Videos to Make

Keep in mind you do not always need to include audio, in fact, the trend is to overlap music on the video you shoot and upload it without audio and music instead.

  • Install crew loading equipment in the morning

  • Trucks pulling out of the shop

  • Install crew unloading a large piece of equipment through the door of a home

  • Shop tour

  • Office staff answering the phone

  • Time Lapse of an install

  • Crew handling tools

Anything that shows your team in action, with some trendy music, will act as good promotional material for Facebook or Instagram. The person currently running your social media platforms is perfect for this kind of project.

Preparing to Shoot a Video

Once you have decided upon your video idea, you will need the following things:

  • People to be in the video
  • A person recording the video who has a steady hand
  • A basic script of what will be said (if speaking at all)
  • A camera, any phone from 2020 onwards is perfect
  • A tripod if the video is stationary
  • Frame the shot (what area will be in the video and where are you standing)
