Staff Motivation

Staff Motivation

motivation

You want to make staff motivation a two-way street within your organization where employees are motivated by owners and owners are motivated by their hardworking, and hopefully passionate staff.

But traditionally, motivation is only treated as a one-directional matter within a company where managers, owners, and CEOs only think about how to motivate their staff to work harder, and seldom do they consider how the employees impact their own passion.

By reframing the relationship between staff and management, you can revitalize the owner’s passion to grow their company, and this expressly stated motivator also serves as a way to motivate your staff when they learn how passionate the owner is. An owner who does little to motivate their staff and acts negatively, will find themselves surrounded by apathetic workers who do not care about their business, the complete opposite is also true, but how do we achieve positivity?

How can an Owner Inspire Staff?

An owner can achieve positivity in their organization by speaking with employees and affirming their belief in the company’s leader. Share the vision of the company and allow employees to imagine their place within your organization.

If you as an owner, have trouble seeing yourself as your company’s visionary think of the following.

An owner who views their role as a person who makes jobs for other people, and the growth of a company enables the well-being of multiple families and individuals within your local community is some the very stuff of inspiration. If we told an owner that the successful operation of their business is literally providing food and shelter for multiple people, suddenly that owner’s desire to succeed shifts from a possibility to a must-do.

Getting Your Staff on The Same Page

There are a few ways to align the staff to the same thinking you have, and we outline some of those ways.

  • Our write-ups on Service Essentials, Core Purposes, and Core Values are a way to establish a baseline for staff to follow as they join your team.
  • Have an all-company meeting at least once a year where you explain to staff how passionate you are about the success of your company. Pairing this with a free lunch and some prizes will make it feel less like a meeting and more like an event.
  • Express how clients are more than just customers and get your staff to also live by this creed and how trade services are essential and therefore something to take pride in.
  • Involve staff in decision-making when appropriate, this allows staff to feel like they have an impact on the direction of the company.
  • Allow key staff to spearhead projects, provide guidance and feedback, and be quick to praise.

A good owner allows staff to take over key tasks and operations of the company but always keeps watchful on quality and results. The idea is to be a mentor to your employees, not an absentee parent.
