Thinking like a maven

Maven mindset

The best way to think like a maven is to think like one. If we think about the lessons we learnt in the Mindset Pillar, there are a lot of practices there that correlate to having a maven mindset. To act as a source of knowledge, trust, and be the best in your industry you first have to believe this to be wholeheartedly true. In Mindset we know how the subconscious mind controls everything we do, and this is why we need to feed it with the right words, thoughts, and beliefs so that we can unlock new potential for ourselves. Market mavens are known for having a strong desire to share information and maintain an active interest in learning and expanding their market interest. This shows that mavens have a growth mindset where they believe that they can keep learning and getting better at their expertise. They are open to receiving new information and think about how this helps them to make better decisions.

See it from their shoes.

Never lose sight of how the client sees things from the outside of your company. As a business owner, you must be addressing the fears, confusion, and needs of your clients. Empathy for the client gives you the ability to see solutions to their problems even before they have them. Simply put yourself in their shoes and pretend you are the one with that problem.

Key theme.

Create a core principle within your company that connects you to everything you do. Link back to your central theme with every action you take, so the client sees your philosophy play out. Have a central theme for your marketing, sales process, messaging, products, and services. You can start to identify your theme when you develop core values and a vision for your business. This can be built into your marketing messages and embedded into the services you provide. The consistent message that you tell your clients will become stored in their mind and connected with positive emotion.

Future vision.

When you are serving your clients, a good maven behavior would be to describe what the future would be like with or without your service/product. Get them to see how much better their life will be with your company’s offering. You want to get this crystal-clear picture of what your client’s pain points are so you can describe exactly how their life will be improved. A maven is prepared to listen and think carefully about each client – showing that they are getting unique attention and your expertise.

The growth questions.

As a maven, you need to be poised with answers to these questions, so you know that you are prepared for growth. Is your company in a position to grow if you have a ton of new customers every day? What system do you have in place that keeps finding new customers? A service that attracts and then retains those clients is the key to growth. If you are not set up to scale, you can never act on the opportunity to grow.

Assume authority.

Always remember and practice the belief that you are an extraordinary in your industry. You’re an expert in your field and the go-to source for industry knowledge. Your position in the marketplace is to serve the niche in the market that is going unmet. You assume your authority and even self-proclaim it because you don’t just talk the talk, you walk the walk.

Maintain expertise.

Part of creating a new industry standard, and creating your own maven persona, is knowing everything there is to know about your industry. Have a deep understanding of the present and future of your industry and make it your mission to always be the most informed.
